What are you favorite brands? When I was younger, mine was a clothing brand called Limited Too. It was the girly-girl’s ultimate dream: cutesy animals pasted on shirts, lots of glitter, and of course, miles and miles of pink. But as I got older, my taste of brands began to shift. And like our evolving styles, our personal brands continue to change as well.
So what is branding? Personal branding (or personal equity) is the process by which we market ourselves to others and is very important in every stage of our internship. Think of it as your resume or your professional self-impression, if you will, that determines how people will perceive you in such contexts.
And in this age of technology, it’s easier to develop and maintain these impressions.
You might think that personal branding isn’t important because you’re the lowly intern. But avoid falling into the assumption that “you’re just there to work.” Internships are worth so much more, and if you work hard, they will give you that competitive edge needed for that hell-hole known as the job market. So how are you going to brand yourself?
